De Broekhof Kapitein

Production remains an unchanged focus point within the Holstein breeding. Genetically, a lot of progress has been made in recent decades and the limit of genetic progress has certainly not yet been reached. Litres of milk will undoubtedly continue to rise within the Holstein population, but there is also still a lot of genetic potential for the increase of contents. However, the increase in production cannot be attributed solely to genetic progress. A good example of this is the breeder of De Broekhof Kapitein, VOF De Broekhof from Witharen (NL.) The average milk production at the Broekhof was already at a high level, but since they switched to robotic milking a year ago, the cows produce almost 10 percent more. The annual average of the 180 dairy cows now stands at 305 days 12,236 kg of milk 4.35% fat 3.57% protein. The Broekhof Equipe family out of which De Broekhof Kapitein is bred certainly contributes to this. It’s certainly not an unknown family to us because previously the full brothers De Broekhof Leanto and Tolean were introduced. The mother of Kapitein is sister to these two promising bulls. Anreli daughter Equipe 315 underlines her high genetic predisposition with a best heifer list resulting in a strong lactation value. The urge to produce is deeply embedded in the pedigree of Kapitein, Grandmother Equipe 305 produced more than 1100 kg of fat and protein in her third lactation within 305 days. Now in her fourth list she starts with a daily production of 60 liters of milk. The Kodak great-grandmother of Kapitein is also a real worker. She is not a big cow but in her sixth lactation she has a predicted 305 days production of 14.827 5.24% fat 3.53% protein. Her lifetime production is already at almost 70,000 kg of milk with 4.95% fat and 3.75% protein. With this background, it is therefore not surprising that Kapitein genetically has a great milk supply with a nice plus for protein. On father’s side Kapitein has with Maroon son Capetown a relatively unknown bull sire. The strong production rate is also deeply rooted in the pedigree of father Capetown. Kapitein himself is a strongly developed bull equipped with a strong frame and sloping rump. Especially for the smaller cows that can use extra production urge, Broekhof Kapitein promises to be a perfect partner.
